Course Overview
Format: Interactive Instructor-Led Training
Duration: 8 Hours (including breaks)
Target Audience: Team leaders, department managers, and professionals who manage projects alongside their core responsibilities but lack formal PM certification.
Course Description
This training strips away heavy academic theory to deliver the core, practical frameworks needed to launch, execute, and close projects successfully. Designed for modern professionals, the course shifts the focus from rigid textbook methodologies to agile, real-world execution.
Through a blend of rapid-fire instruction, case studies, and hands-on simulation, participants will build a functional project toolkit they can apply immediately to their current workplace initiatives.
Key Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
Define clear project boundaries using a robust project charter template.
Deconstruct complex project scopes into manageable pieces using a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
Identify and mitigate critical bottlenecks using basic critical path concepts.
Manage stakeholder expectations and maintain clear communication channels.
Track progress and pivot gracefully when real-world constraints shift.
Course Agenda & Roadmap
1.Module 1: Foundations & The Project Charter:
Focus: Moving from a vague idea to a defined project.
The project lifecycle simplified.
Defining success metrics and project constraints (Time, Cost, Scope).
Interactive Exercise: Participants draft a 1-page Project Charter based on a realistic business case.
2.Module 2: Scoping & Breaking Down the Work:
Focus: Visualizing the actual work required.
Preventing “Scope Creep” (uncontrolled project expansion).
Building a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
Interactive Exercise: Post-it Note WBS simulation—teams visually map out the deliverables for a complex event or product launch.
3.Module 3: Scheduling & Risk Management:
Focus: Timing, dependencies, and what could go wrong.
Estimating task durations realistically.
Identifying the Critical Path (the sequence of dependent tasks that determines the project end date).
Risk identification and mitigation strategies.
Interactive Exercise: Teams build a basic Gantt chart and run a “Pre-Mortem” exercise to catch risks before they happen.
4.Module 4: Execution, Stakeholders & Closing:
Focus: Managing people and crossing the finish line.
Communicating status updates effectively to stakeholders.
Managing changes to the project plan.
Documenting lessons learned for future success.
Interactive Exercise: Change Request Roleplay—teams must adjust their project plan on the fly after a major constraint change is introduced.
Interactive Components & Deliverables
This course relies heavily on action-based learning. Throughout the day, participants will populate their own “Project Sandbox Toolkit,” which includes:
A Draft Project Charter for immediate alignment.
A High-Level Work Breakdown Structure to organize tasks.
A Risk Register Matrix to track and mitigate project threats.
Participant Note: Bring a real, active project idea from your current workload. The interactive exercises are designed so you can test these tools directly on your own real-world tasks.
