This hands-on, one-day workshop is designed for business professionals who want to stop wrestling with static spreadsheets and start creating dynamic, interactive dashboards. Forget dense database theory—this course focuses on the practical, real-world skills needed to connect to data, build clean models, create stunning visuals, and share insights securely with your team.

  • Prerequisites: Basic familiarity with Microsoft Excel (formulas, sorting, and filtering). No prior data modeling or programming experience required.

  • Target Audience: Analysts, managers, and business users who need to build or interpret business reports.

Course Schedule

 

1.Module 1: Connect & Clean (The Foundation):

Learn how to navigate the Power BI Desktop interface and bring data in from common sources.

  • Connecting to Excel spreadsheets and CSV files.

  • Introduction to Power Query: Sorting, filtering, and cleaning messy data.

  • Fixing common errors (mismatched dates, blank rows, and text-to-number conversions).

2.Module 2: Model & Calculate (The Brains):

Organize your data so it works together seamlessly without relying on messy Excel VLOOKUPs.

  • Building simple relationships between multiple tables.

  • Introduction to DAX (Data Analysis Expressions)—the formulas behind Power BI.

  • Creating core business metrics: Writing basic calculations like total sales, year-over-year growth, and averages.

3.Lunch Break:

Decompress and network.

4.Module 3: Visualize & Interact (The Beauty):

Transform raw numbers into interactive, easy-to-read visual stories.

  • Choosing the right visual: Bar charts, line graphs, cards, and maps.

  • Designing with intent: Formatting layouts, colors, and titles for clarity.

  • Adding interactivity: Using slicers, filters, and drill-downs so users can explore the data themselves.

5.Module 4: Publish & Share (The Delivery):

Get your dashboards out of your computer and into the hands of decision-makers.

  • Publishing reports from Power BI Desktop to the Power BI Service (Cloud).

  • Building clean, one-page executive dashboards.

  • Sharing reports safely and securely with colleagues.

6.Interactive Capstone & Wrap-Up:

Put it all together in an independent mini-project using a fresh dataset, followed by a Q&A session.
